Listener’s Dilemma – Home’s Not Cool

A listener sent an email with this dilemma for our listeners:

My wife and I live in an older house and heat with oil. Even though my wife complains of “hot flashes” she likes the house quite warm. I’m always turning the thermostat down and asking her to wear slippers and put on a sweater, but I swear she is worse than the kids when they lived here for not wearing enough warm clothes inside. I’m the one who handles the household budget and I’m not looking forward to our next light bill or oil bill.

Can someone explain to me how someone who has “hot flashes” likes the home so warm? How can I get my wife on board to help us save money on heat and lights?
