Bluenose Academy To Hold Popular Fundraiser

It’s Mardi Gras time at Bluenose Academy, providing a welcome break in these cold winter months.

In its tenth year the event is the biggest fundraiser for the school, with all proceeds going towards activities, clubs, trips and athletic teams at the school.

Those funds relieve the burden on students who might not be able to participate due to the costs involved, said Chasity Spindler, parent and Co-Chair of the Mardi Gras planning committee.

“The day always goes really well and people come from all around every year,” she said, “They really appreciate that we do this for the school every year.”

There are lots of activities to enjoy including a giant inflatable fun zone, a silent auction, Toonie toss, carnival games, a magic show, 50/50 draw and new this year a photo booth.

For those with a sweet tooth there are also crowd pleasing treats; cotton candy, popcorn and snow cones.

“The snow cones are huge, all the kids really love the snow cones,” said Spindler.

It takes some dedicated planning to pull the day off and planning meetings start in October with organizers meeting weekly at first and more frequently as the day approaches.

General admission is by good will donation. Inflatable zone is $2.00 a ride or purchase a $10.00 bracelet to ride the entire event. Carnival tickets are $10.00 for 25 tickets or 50 cents each.

The party starts Saturday, February 22 from 11 AM-2 PM with a storm date on February 23.
