Relatives Being Dipsticks About Mechanic

A listener emailed this dilemma and are looking for advice:

I’ve been taking my vehicles to a great mechanic for a dozen years. He keeps them safe and running and on the road at a fraction of the price others charge, and always does little extras when he’s working on them. He was married to my cousin but they are in the middle of a divorce.
Under pressure from my cousin’s mom, I took my car to a different mechanic for some basic oil change and maintenance work and was not impressed with either the work or the bill so now I’m back with my favourite mechanic.
When the family found out they were furious with me and are demanding an apology for being disloyal. They claim I shouldn’t be doing business with a soon to be relative’s ex. I say it’s just business and since we don’t discuss the divorce it’s none of their business.
Now I’m having second thoughts about my decision. Should I apologize to these distant relatives? (My immediate family is fine with all this)

You can offer your advice on our Facebook page and then listen in Monday morning at 7:40 to hear the discussion.
