New funding for farmers for flood, wildfire damage

If you are a farmer who was impacted by the wildfires or floods last year, the province has announced new funding through the 2023 Season Response Program.

The $9.2 million will help cover crop damage and yield loss that were a direct result of last year’s extreme weather.

The province says other losses including farm infrastructure, supply and the cost of re-establishing fields, may also qualify.

Agriculture Minister Greg Morrow says the funding will help “fruit, vegetable, berry and forage farmers as they recover and plan for the upcoming season.”

The government’s Kentville weather station measured precipitation on 53 out of 92 days between June and August.

Five of those days had more than 25mm.

The deadline for applications is March 13.
