A weekend of curling has brought a hospital in Lunenburg closer to some much needed equipment.
The West Nova Fuels Curl for a Cause annual bonspiel kicked off this weekend, raising over $51,000 for a new portable ultrasound machine for the Emergency Department at Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital – a standard piece of equipment for other emergency departments across the province.
Anne Cosgrove, organizing committee chair says the event and money raised really speaks to how caring the community is.
She says “Residents of Lunenburg and its surrounding communities really pull together when it comes to supporting local. Anyone who has used Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital knows how much it gives to our community; this is our opportunity to give back to the hospital and its staff.”
The fundraising event has raised over $686,000 for the hospital in the last 20 years, supporting the purchase of 89 new pieces of equipment for various department’s within the hospital.
With a cost of $54,900, the remainder of the portable ultrasound cost will be raised through the Oak Island Shares the Dream auction on March 21st, and staff hope to see the new equipment ready and on the floor in the next few months.
