Gyms, Hair Salons Among Next String of Businesses Forced to Shut Down

More business are closing their doors as the Covid-19 virus continues to sweep through the province.

In a press conference yesterday, Nova Scotia government announced it would be shutting down all personal service and fitness establishments.

This includes all hair salons, barber shops, spas, nail salons, body art parlors and gyms.

Dr. Robert Strang, Nova Scotia’s chief medical officer of health said they know closing down all these businesses will affect the daily lives of Nova Scotians, but they are necessary moves.

“We’re putting these big impositions on people’s lives, on businesses, etc., but the reason we are doing that is to reduce the impact on people’s health, protect the people as best we can and preserve our healthcare system,” he said.

Premier Stephen McNeil also noted they will continue to look daily at sectors to shut down temporarily to try and prevent further spread of the virus.

“We want people home, in their own area, their own property and with their own family,” he said.

“That is one of the ways we are going to beat this spread, and don’t be surprised if every day or second day we identify another sector of our economy that’s going to have to close.”

The province also announced effective immediately doctors notes are not needed for those who need to be off work.
