Is a Cashless Canada In The Future?

I grew up with the “old ways” when it came to money. I was taught the goal is to owe no one, only buy what you can afford and try you best to plan ahead for upcoming bills. The other thing that was ingrained in my upbringing is that Cash is King and plastic, or intangible payments are dangerous. Well, in 2020, that way of thinking really limits your options when it comes to where you shop and what you buy. There are a number of locations saying no to cash due to fears around CoVid-19 and only accepting credit card or debt card payments.

It is a weird time when seeing money laying on the ground brings up thoughts of, “Is it safe to pick up?” instead of “wow, I found money!” Some folks are saying that cash is actually on its way out and in a decade it will be like a horse and buggy, basically be a thing of the past.

It might be the aforementioned upbringing, but that idea kinda scares me. Think about it, especially for kids. Their lemonade stand by the road would have to have interact payment. What about the teenager that mows your lawn, or the babysitter, e-transfer would be the only option for payment, so I hope you have good cell service at your home. I would have to stand in the yard with one leg in the air in order to send money where I live.

Well ready or not, a lot of people are asking questions about a cashless Canada.
