Lunenburg Harbour To Remain Silent This Year Following Festival Cancellation

Another festival has bowed out due to COVID-19, this time in Lunenburg.

Organizers have cancelled the 35th annual Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival for this year due to the province’s State of Emergency and the uncertainty of COVID-19.

In the release, Louis Robitaille, program committee chair of the festival says the decision had to be made.

“We were so excited about the lineup of musicians that were booked to perform at the festival this year,” they said.

“We had new acts and returning favourites from Nova Scotia, other Canadian provinces, and the USA, but cancelling was the only responsible decision that could be made.”

While ticket holders do have the option for a full refund, the society is asking ticket holders consider donating the cost back to the society, as to offset costs they would have normally made up through fundraisers and spring concerts.

“We have already had to cancel our major fundraiser, Folk Fiesta!, four spring concerts, and many private rentals for the Lunenburg Opera House,” said Robitaille.

“Because of all these losses, we can really use help to offset the Society’s ongoing, year-round expenses that would normally be covered by ticket sales, donations, and sponsorships.”

In the release, he said those who donate their refund will receive receipts for charity credits during income tax time.

The release states they intend to push the festival to August 5th to 8th, 2021.
