Flood at Abbie Lane in Halifax disrupts mental health and addictions services across N.S.

Mental health and addictions services are disrupted across the province due to a water leak at a QEII Health Sciences Centre facility in Halifax.

Nova Scotia Health says a flood affected Floors 5, 6, and 7 of the Abbie J. Lane Memorial Building Friday.

Twenty of 48 mental health and addictions inpatient beds are temporarily closed, meaning some patients had to be moved or discharged.

Meantime, the health authority says it is looking for additional beds to add to its capacity.

In a release, NSH urges anyone in need of mental health and addictions care to continue seeking support.

“Anyone requiring admission will receive necessary care, although it may require being admitted farther from home than usual.”

The health authority says the extent of the water damage and a timeline for repairs are under assessment.
