Federal Government Expanding Support To Small Businesses

Mary Ng, the Minister of Small Business, Export Promotion and International Trade, says they’re now casting a wider net with the Canada Emergency Business Account.

“The support is now available to sole proprietors and businesses that rely on contractors,” explains Minister Ng, “…as well as family-owned corporations that pay employees through dividends rather than through payroll.”

In addition, the Minister says that the money is now available to businesses owners without $20 thousand in payroll.

Despite the expansion, Minister Ng tells us they know some businesses will still fall through the cracks, and that they are working still to make sure those who need help will get it.

The Canada Emergency Business Account is a $25 billion program which provides loans of up to $40 thousand to small businesses and not-for-profits.

Over 600,000 small businesses across Canada have accessed the funding so far.
