The Lockdown – Go Faster Or Go Slower?

Up until the last week, my wife Karen and I have been on the same page as far as the pandemic and lockdown. But lately we’re heading in different directions, and I think this might be indicative of what the general public is going through.

I’m still in the camp of very slowly easing restrictions for fear of a second wave.

She’s just about exhausted all the things she can do to stay sane while at home and just wants the world to open up again.

She looks forward to our Premier’s habit of dropping Friday afternoon treats – opening this up or that up in announcements that have been coming most Fridays while I fear that the next lifting of restrictions will cause a spike in infections that will set us back to April’s strict lockdown terms.

I completely understand where she’s coming from with her desire to see things go back to normal. The warm weather has us out of the house more, we miss our friends and family, and we’re running out of shows to watch on Netflix. (Hurry up June 1st – lots more shows drop then!)

And I do fear the economic chaos from continuing this lockdown and maintaining social distancing, but I fear death for both myself, my elderly mother and our friends and neighbours more.

So I’ll continue to self-isolate to the best of my abilities, wear a mask at the grocery store, wash my hands frequently, use hand sanitizer – all those little things that have been shown to limit the spread of the infection.

Folks, we can’t let the warmer weather lead us down a path of dubious decisions that could make this pandemic worse in our area. Don’t let up on all you’re doing so it gives scientists time to come up with a vaccine.
