The department of Lands and Forestry is responding to a number of forest fires in the province, including one deemed out of control in the Argyle area.
Residents started noticing a thick plume of smoke in the Goose Lake area where the fire is burning late Monday morning.
The province dispatched a helicopter to help fight the blaze, which is estimated to be about 18 hectares.
Lands and Forestry says no identified structures at risk at this time and the cause under investigation.
Crews will resume fighting the blaze at first light.
There are also fires burning in Springfield in Kings County, and in the northern part of the province at this time.
There continues to be a province-wide ban on burning, including brush and backyard fires.
Burn restrictions are updated at 2 in the afternoon every day.
