Lunenburg releases draft of its Comprehensive Community Plan

Project Lunenburg has released the Final Draft Comprehensive Community Plan (CCP) after a year of community input and feedback.

Work on the draft plan began last February with public consultations being held monthly to go over aspects that would be included in the plan.

“It was a long process but it’s good when you are dealing with something this wide, this broad and this deep that you take the time to really learn it and do it right, said Councillor Matt Risser.

Risser says that affordable housing was one of the major areas of concern for residents.

In a report entitled ‘What We Heard Report’ on housing 34% of respondents felt that the cost of living in Lunenburg was a challenge and 23% felt the variety of housing was an issue.

The report is one of a series-transportation, housing, built heritage and streetscapes, recreation and community spaces, sustainability and environment, arts and culture, governance and collaboration, economic development and an individual survey. These were compiled through surveys and public participation, which can be read here.

Risser says that land-use regulations have not been updated in some time and the CPP is only one part of this plan.

“We are going to have a new municipal planning strategy and land-use bylaw come out of this as well. I think you are going to see a lot of renewal and modernization of our regulations,” he said.
