NSP Fined $250K For Declining Standards

The province’s power utility is facing a $250,000 fine for declining reliability and customer service standards.

The fine was levied by the Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board last week after a review found NSP missed six of 13 performance targets in 2019.

Those include failing to meet their own standards for the length and frequency of power outages.

It’s the third year in a row the utility missed its targets.

Nova Scotia Power’s ‘bad weather’ excuse was rejected by the Board.

The fine is due at the end of September, and will come from shareholders.

It’s not enough to make a dent in power rates, but it will be used to lower the fuel bill customers pay to generate electricity.
