Today is the big day when weather forecasters turn to a rodent to predict what the next month and a half will look like. It’s Groundhog Day! All eyes will be on the noble Land Beaver to see if he sees his shadow. Have you ever wondered why? Check out some Groundhog Day facts.
For the past few years we have been able to keep an eye on the earliest riser in the North American groundhog world, Shubenacadie Sam with a live webcam. This year as groundhog day events have been promoted as being virtual due to CoVid-19, I can’t find a live feed, but just before 8am today, there is a promised link up to the famous critter. Early interviews didn’t reveal much about what we can expect today

So we will have to tune in and see what prediction Sam has this morning. Given the current conditions outside, I can guess no shadow, if he comes out at all. But I will leave weather forecasting to the expert. Our province’s weather predictor is the most accurate in North America.
according to Meteorologist Cindy Day. Shubenacadie Sam has an accuracy rate of about 45%, compared to 39% for Punxsutawney Phil and 25% for Wiarton Willy
