Money for ferries and Confederation Bridge in federal budget

The 2024 federal budget promises funding to help keep costs down for those using bridges and ferries in Atlantic Canada.

Marine Atlantic will get $124.1 million over five years to support ferry operations between Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador to help keep future fares affordable.

Transport Canada will receive $2.5 million over two years for its Ferry Services Contribution Program to freeze fares for services between New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Eastern Quebec.

It will also receive $13.7 million over the next two years to negotiate a continued toll freeze on the Confederation Bridge connecting New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island in 2025 and 2026.
