Normally we would be moving to a baby barn for a week of broadcasting live from the Big Ex today. Excited for the grand street parade, the opening of Campbell’s Amusement rides and looking forward to some great competitions and lots of animals. But not this year. Instead of watching for Ox and Horse Pull results, we can follow the Olympics taking place on the other side of the world, Tokyo 2020. I can’t say I have ever been one that followed sporting events close enough on TV that anything became unmissable. I catch what I can and check the scores on the rest. I did see some of the Calgary Stampede finals and have tuned into some of the evening Olympic coverage, but I admit I am seeing less than I would with the winter Olympics when the weather is more inside friendly.
I have noticed that there seems to be lots of controversy around this years event in Tokyo. From the protests around the event even taking place to the fines issued around contesting the handball bikini “uniform”, it seems medal count and competition results have taken bit of a back seat. Pretty great to see that Pink is covering the issued fines to the Norwegian female beach handball team for wearing shorts instead of the required bikini bottoms.

I think the fact that we have some South Shore residents competing is pretty neat.
Sarah Mitton from Brooklyn is competing in the Shot Put event with qualifying this Friday and the finals on Saturday. You can see that in this schedule of events:

Here are a few great ways to follow along with Sarah’s experiences in Tokyo as we wish her all the best in her quest for gold.
Just incase you are curious about the medal count so far at Tokyo 2020, Canada sits a 10th place with six medals including one gold.
