This Could Solve All Grocery Frustrations

Yesterday was a big day. For the first time in forever we actually did some shopping as a family. I have had the title of “pandemic shopper”, following the arrows and making sure to get what was on the list. I feel it has made me more patient and relaxed when it comes to “running to the store for a few things”.
Yesterday we divided and conquered. It felt like I was in the wild west. There were no arrows on the floor! Still masked and distanced, but it was less like an Indiana Jones movie, not quite as cautious of how many people might be there as I rounded a corner, haha.
I have noticed a bit of a change over the past year or so that overall people’s patience is wearing thin, especially at the checkout. I thought it was just me, but as we struggled to get the groceries packed while they were rung through, I could see I was not alone in my frustration. Then when the ask for payment came before the last items were back in the cart, that highlighted the feeling that self checkout might be preferred by everyone, including the employee. Everyone has a bad day, but the trend seems to be that more and more this would be a reasonable facsimile of going through the checkout.

Now I am not for one minute trying to pass the blame. My grocery packing abilities are not great and after a year away from it I am sure my wife was out of practice too. This simple hack on TikTok might be the answer. It prevents taking time to get things in the reusable bags, with no fear of squashed cherries or crushed eggs.

This is in no way pointing fingers or blaming for frustrations, just some food for thought for those on both sides of the checkout as things start to get back to normal.
