There have been reports of an uptick in rental scams in Lunenburg and Queens County.
Corporal Chris Marshall, Spokesperson for the RCMP said scammers are taking advantage of peoples desperation to find rental housing.
“We started to see it more given the current situation in the rental market,” said Marshall. “With the current climate it has certainly lead to a bit of an uptick”
Marshall recommends never giving a deposit prior to meeting with the landlord and seeing the rental property in person.
He said there has also been an increase in phone and internet scams throughout the province since the pandemic started.
If you believe you are the victim of a scam, contact the local police department.
