The President of the Seahawks Minor Football Club said the loss of their co-founder is heartbreaking.
Gary Linthorne, who passed away on Saturday at the age of 74 was a major force behind bringing football to the South Shore.
Not only was Linthorne co-founder of the Seahawks Minor Football Club, he was also their former president as well as an avid coach and mentor.
The clubs current President, James Dickens said this is a huge loss for the football world not only on the South Shore, but in all of Nova Scotia.
“He’s going to be sadly missed and he’s going to be a hard man to replace,” Dickens stated.
He explained that Linthorne has had a huge impact on the kids in the community.
“Kids come to the sport and sometimes you can’t get a word out of them and by the end of the first season their completely different people at school, they are completely different people in the public and that’s what Gary brought to the South Shore with this,” Dickens explained. “That legacy will live on forever. ”
He said that they plan to have a memorial for Linthorne on the football field when gatherings are once again permitted.
