Man charged with first-degree murder after shooting in North Preston

A man faces a first-degree murder charge after allegedly shooting an 18-year-old.

RCMP responded to a shooting on Downey Road on March 14th, shortly after 4 p.m., according to a news release.

They found Dieago Downey, who died of his injuries in hospital. Police later ruled the death a homicide.

During the investigation, using forensic information and search warrants, police learned there was a second victim, a 29-year-old man from North Preston, who was targeted the same day.

Police arrested Daniel Romeo Downey, a 26-year-old man, in Dartmouth on June 12.

He faces charges of attempted and first-degree murder and will appear in court on July 2.

Police urge any witnesses to call police at 902-420-5020.

The investigation continues.
