What Is Best To Prevent Slip Sliding Away?

Well, looks like the ice will be sticking around for a bit.
Yesterday I got to do some sliding on the ice. I used to love to do that as a kid, but I have to say it is a bit less enjoyable in a car. Especially when trying to steer going backwards. I can laugh at it now since the snowbank stopped me from going in the ditch and I was able to slide the front end down the hill and drive out. But that did get me thinking about what is best thing to use for getting rid of, or dealing with ice in the driveway. Salt and sand both have pros and cons.

Should I sand or salt my driveway and walks in the winter?

I had some sand and that worked to get up the hill yesterday, but now with the rain and predicted freezing again tonight, I will likely have to reapply sand tonight or tomorrow to prevent another bobsled run down the hill tomorrow morning.
Is there a better option, or should I just dub the Sunfire “Cool Runnings” and go with it?
Here are some suggestions for life with ice:

I am not going to get too adventurous so I will just get some more sand and be ready to spread it on the hill.
Now if you would rather see the other products put to the test, here you go.
