Town Of Lunenburg Cancels Virtual Canada Day Event

Canada Day celebrations have been cancelled in the Town of Lunenburg.

This comes as Canada Day events in communities across the country are being halted due to the recent findings at residential schools in Saskatchewan and B.C.

Originally the town had planned to host a virtual Canada Day celebration but council has since decided not to host the event this year.

Mayor Matt Risser spoke about how he hopes people will spend their July 1st.

“I think its important for people to reflect on what has been brought to light in the recent months and I think its important for them to commit to going forward in a spirit of reconciliation,” said Risser.

Risser believes that moving forward we are going to have to consider how we can celebrate Canada Day in a more respectful way and appropriate way.
