Generous gift supports Mi’kmaq Learners Healthcare Bursary

Mi’kmaq students are getting some financial help to pursue post-secondary education and careers in health care.

The Dartmouth General Hospital Foundation has announced a $250,000 gift from Horizon Maritime.

It will support the Mi’kmaq Learners Healthcare Bursary at NSCC.

The DGHF-Horizon Maritime Bursary Program will include five $3,000 bursaries, renewable for up to three years.

It’s available to post-secondary students from each of the five Mi’kmaq territory districts in Nova Scotia.

In a release, Horizon Maritime CEO, Steve Widmeyer says that Horizon Maritime is very pleased to contribute to the vital work that the Dartmouth General Hospital Foundation does. He adds, “The opportunity to provide Mi’kmaq students financial support while they pursue a career in the healthcare sector is one that we could not pass up. At the end of the day all Nova Scotians will benefit.”

CEO of the DGHF, Stephen Harding says the foundation is “proud to champion this bursary program to help ensure healthcare professionals in the province reflect the diverse communities we serve.”

For information on how to apply for the bursary program go here. The application deadline is July 18th.
