A sawmill in Chester Grant sustained significant damage after a fire on Monday afternoon.
Multiple fire departments responded to the blaze at Millet Lumber shortly before 1 p.m.
Chester Basin Fire Department Captain, Blake Rafuse said despite one building being a total loss, the fire could have been much worse.
“It was raining hard but that didn’t help the structure fire, it helped the spread of the fire by wetting the sawdust, lumber and everything else,” said Rafuse. “If it was dry, sunny and windy it probably would have been a completely different story.”
Rafuse said that fire crews were on scene for nearly six hours and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
