Seahawks Minor Football Seeks More Atom Aged Players

Seahawks Minor Football is struggling to recruit enough 9 to 10 year old’s for their Atom aged team.

James Dickens, President of the Seahawks Minor Football Club said they currently have the minimum number of players to field a team, but he is still unsure about committing the team to the league unless more kids sign up.

“We are right on that tipping point as to whether we start practices Monday or not,” said Dickens. “Right now we are at a bare minimum to start a game, but if one kid was sick or injured we would not be able to field a team.”

He said ideally, they need 4 or 5 more kids to register, but they are able to take up to 15 more kids.

Dickens believes the pandemic has made it much harder to recruit new players, especially in the Atom age group.

“Our normal recruiting process goes through the schools in Bridgewater and surrounding areas and with COVID we haven’t been able to have that kind of access to the kids,” Dickens explained. “With a rural setting, its been a real struggle to target and get the information out to parents of kids of that age.”

Registration for Atom aged boys and girls is open until the end of the day on Friday, August 6th.
