As we wrap up another month, that means we are getting closer to summer and the freedom of a break from school for students. No matter what you do over the summer, this time away from the norm is a welcomed break. Swimming in the many lakes or time at the beach is a great way to enjoy the warmer months. For some summer means sleeping under the stars and enjoying the simple life. While others work a job and enjoy the freedom of having an income for a few months. For others, summer is when you get to go off and make new friends at summer camp.
I didn’t attend a lot of summer camps, but I do have fond memories of the times I did. Cub Camp at Long Lake was a great one where we learned a fire surround built with slate rock leads to running for cover and cans of crunchy beans when the rocks explode, haha.
Legion Leadership Camp was a great experience where friends were made plus we got to spend time at Acadia University in our early teens.
Yearbook Camp was skills training with some fun mixed in. That is where we spent 4 days learning how to do what anyone can do today online in fifteen minutes with no training at all, haha.
Last night I felt very useless as I watched Mattea win another round of Jeopardy!… I think I got two correct, haha.
Then we caught MasterChef Junior. Now this is a show that will make most feel like their childhood was wasted, haha. At 10 years-old I think a wheelie on my bicycle was a big accomplishment, but these kids are cooking meals for 50 people with plans for opening their own restaurants. I was pleased that I could make French Toast, from scratch, haha.
Well if you have a youngster that aspires to be a chef and your pockets are deep enough, there is always the option of the Camp MasterChef.
Now we have a lot of great summer camps that don’t require your kids travelling to another country as well. Whether it is a camp connected to a youth organization like Scouts or 4-H, a church, or just a kids activity getaway camp, I can guarantee it is a great way to meet new friends and make the most of summer break. Here are some summer camp options offered in our province this year.

Of course if we look at summer camp in the eyes of movies, there are a number of characters that come to mind.
I am sure you can relate to some of these…
AND as I wrap up this post, the one song that comes to mind when I think of summer camp. No, it’s not one that you sing as you enjoy s’mores around the campfire at night. This is a tune about summer camp, haha.
Remember it is time to start thinking about what to do this summer. May starts on Sunday!
