Lightning Awareness Week – Time To Spark Up The Safety Conversation

A bit too overcast this morning to see the planets aligning, but look up over the weekend and you should still be able to see the spectacle that will not be visible again for 100 years.
Last Friday evening many of us got quite the light show across the night sky when a rather intense thunder and lightning storm rolled through. This is Lightning Awareness Week. I have always liked to watch it, but it does make me uncomfortable.
I have seen softwood trees that have been struck blown to splinters and there is one ash on the farm that has been hit at least twice. There is a groove cut in the tree right down to the ground. There have been many churches struck and I remember when my great grandmother had lightning follow the satellite line right into her home and blow up her TV in Danesville.
You might think it is not something to worry about, but there are still injuries each year from lightning strikes, so maybe take a minute and read over these safety tips.

Still not sure if lightning strikes happen much anymore? Here are a few caught on camera from this year. Stay safe!
