Hopefully you made it out to see some fireworks during Canada Day celebrations. The sky lit up in a lot of communities to celebrate our countries birthday.
I remember when I was a kid the idea of buying your own fireworks was unheard of, so it was only during events like Canada Day that you got to enjoy the spectacle, unless you went to a Disney resort. Now you could set off your own fireworks display nightly if you don’t mind paying the price.
The question is, do the sparks in the sky hurt the environment? Lately there have been people and groups coming forward with the argument that fireworks displays are harmful to animals and also some people. Now there is the concern of pollution from these colourful shows.
Even though this article is a few years old, it discusses the concerns.
Are Fireworks Bad for the Environment? Here’s What You Need to Know
I know the article discuses the shows in the US, but we all share the same environment. Should we limit fireworks to certain times of the year in controlled settings, like when the fire department, or professionals set them off for a crowd. Food for thought I guess.
I have always enjoyed setting off fireworks, but I would understand if it was left to the professionals. I would just be sad to see them outlawed completely. Seeing the awe and wonder in our boy’s eyes the other night was as good as the display in the sky for me.
