Today as we are getting ready for a sunny weekend, in the wild west they are kicking off an annual celebration that has been enjoyed for over 100 years. Today is the start of the 109th Calgary Stampede, “The Greatest Outdoor Show On Earth”. Things are going to look more normal than the last few as well. Even the parade will be held this year.
I have always wanted to be there and hopefully someday, but I watch it on TV and was lucky enough to catch one of the qualifying rodeos in Panoka, Alberta years ago.
Pretty wild stuff for sure.
Calgary Stampede – The Greatest Outdoor Show On Earth
Now even wilder than the entertainment is the food. The Calgary Stampede has become known for one of the most interesting midway menus around. This year is no exception, haha. I must say the samosa poutine sounds tasty and the mac and cheese soft serve has me curious, but you can have all the cricket hotdogs you like, I will sit that one out.
I can say I am happy we have fish and chips and breakfast sandwiches from the Italy Cross/Middlewood and District canteen and mini donuts near our baby barn at the Big Ex and not squid corn dogs, haha.
