When I saw eggnog on store shelves in October a couple of years ago, I thought it was just a feel good something to help folks through a rough year… But it’s October 2022 and eggnog is on the store shelves as we speak.
Now whether you welcome this holiday beverage, or feel it’s too early, it is here and it seems Thanksgiving eggnog will be a thing from now on. The big question is, should this be embraced and given a spot during this weekend’s celebrations? I for one am all for it! For years we considered ourselves lucky if eggnog was able to be found in time for mix at the Murder Mystery Weekend at the end of October, so why not have it at the beginning of the month. Seems like it is good news for those making it too.

Part of me wonders if this is eggnog’s way of taking over Pumpkin Spice’s time to shine. But then again I feel there is likely room for both at the same time. That might also mean that Pumpkin Spice season could stretch into Christmas too. That is yet to be seen.

Amazingly Good Eggnog
Ingredients
- 4 cups milk
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 5 whole cloves
- 2 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract, divided
- 12 large egg yolks
- 1 ½ cups white sugar
- 4 cups light cream
- 2 ½ cups light rum (Optional)
- ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
