Community members step in to book appointments for Volunteer Income Tax Program

A community member in the Region of Queens has come forward to volunteer their time booking income-tax appointments.

This comes after the municipality decided not to volunteer municipal staff due, in part, to the amount of calls staff have fielded in past years.

The province-wide tax program isn’t a municipal program; Queens was one of the few municipalities in the province volunteering its own staff to do the bookings.

The decision prompted backlash from the community, with people insisting it is their responsibility, Norman says.

After news broke of the decision, people began stepping up to fill the gap.

“Several people came forward and offered to do the bookings. So, one person is doing them full time,” Norman says.

Bookings are now open for people in the Region of Queens who needs help filling out a simple tax return.

The appointments will be at Royal Canadian Legion Mersey Branch #038 in Liverpool.
To book a time, call 902-521-4544.
