Family home burns in Chester Grant

A Chester Grant family has lost their house and several pets after a fire that gutted their home over the weekend.

Just before 10:30 p.m. on Friday March 4, Chester Basin Fire Department responded to the fire.

Mutual aid was dispatched from Chester, Hubbards, Western Shore, New Ross, Martin’s River, Blockhouse and Hantsport fire departments.

Traffic was stopped on Highway 12 for multiple hours while police closed the road to one lane to accommodate a tanker shuttle.

EHS treated the family for smoke inhalation; they were later assessed in hospital and released. One man was treated for burns as well.

Several animals died in the fire, reports say.
