A new collective bargaining agreement for over 9,100 healthcare professionals at Nova Scotia Health and the IWK Health Centre has been ratified.
The agreement, which received approval from 79 percent of union members, encompasses employees in fields such as physiotherapy, psychology, lab work, continuing care, social work, and pharmacy.
The deal includes wage increases that vary based on occupation, seniority, and regional pay standards.
The first wage increase will be imposed retroactively, dating back to November 1, 2023, with all members will receiving a basic economic adjustment of three percent. Then there will be an additional two percent increase effective November 1, 2024.
According to Health Minister Michelle Thompson, the agreement reflects the government’s commitment to maintaining a robust healthcare workforce and advancing the transformation of Nova Scotia’s healthcare system.
Union leaders have described the deal as a challenging but fair resolution, recognizing the essential role these professionals play in delivering critical care.
The contract will remain in effect until October 31, 2025.
