Who had the best performance in Thursday’s debate among the three main party leaders in Nova Scotia?
According to political science professor at Cape Breton University Tom Urbaniak, NDP leader Claudia Chender had a good night.
“She was able to make the points that she wanted to make, about the affordability crisis and the worsening housing situation. Tim Houston doubled down on things, saying they’re building more houses,” said Urbaniak.
He says it’s clear PC leader Tim Houston is banking on Nova Scotians thinking we’re on the right track.
Urbaniak says Liberal leader Zach Churchill and Chender want voters to consider if their lives are better since the PCs formed government.
He adds it’s been a quiet election campaign until now.
“We had the U.S. election and Remembrance Day, and we have a short election campaign. A lot of the discussions have not crystalized until this debate. It was a civil debate, with a lot of issues talked about.”
Urbaniak says debates do matter, and can push candidates who are less known into the spotlight.
