425kg of suspected weed seized at Port of Halifax and airport, 2 charged

Over the course of a few weeks, 425 kg of weed was seized at Halifax Stanfield Airport and the Port of Halifax.

The Canadian Border Services Agency says it was October 22 when 574 packages of suspected cannabis, weighing at 347 kg and one package of hash, about 1kg, were found in a container heading to the Caribbean at the Port of Halifax.

Then, November 13 and 14, two different men were charged after four suitcases filled with about 80kg of cannabis were seized at the airport, heading to London, UK.

The suspects will appear in court, January.

The border agency says, although cannabis is legal in Canada, shipping it across the border is a serious criminal offence and could face years of prison time.
