Another hockey player from Batherson family goes pro

Another Nova Scotia Batherson has gone to the big leagues.

Raised in New Minas, Mae Batherson has signed with the Minnesota Frost of the Professional Women’s Hockey League.

Just shy of age 24, she was chosen by Minnesota in the sixth round, 33rd overall, in the 2024 PWHL Draft. The league started their second season on Saturday, while the Frost’s season got underway on Sunday.

Batherson, who plays defence, played college hockey at Syracuse and St. Lawrence.

Her brother, Drake Batherson is a professional hockey player for the Ottawa Senators.

Their father, Norm Batherson – who was born in North Sydney – played one season with the Sens, mostly with their AHL affiliate.

Their uncle Dennis Vial from Ontario also played for Ottawa in the 1990s.
