Grade 5 student from Bridgewater wins Excellence award at a Heritage Fair at Saint Mary’s University

Addison Smith, a student a Bridgewater Junior High School won an award of Excellence in Research at the Nova Scotia Provincial Heritage Fair at Saint Mary’s University, earlier this month.

The award was presented to her by Dr. Robert Summerby-Murray, the President of the University, for her project March Forward, that focused on the 150th Anniversary of the RCMP.

As part of her research, she taped an interview with the Commanding Officer of the force. That interview was featured in her video submission of Canada’s History Young Citizen contest, a competition available to students who competed in a local or heritage fair. As part of the judging criteria, votes will make up part of her score.

Voting is now open until July 1 with the results this fall.
