With hundreds of Nova Scotians displaced as a result of last month’s wildfires, the provincial government is trying to provide housing options for the victims.
The province announced that it is investing $7.4 million in the purchase of 25 modular homes that will be available to rent for $1,000 to $2,000 a month.
Different varieties of the homes will be available, including two- and three-bedroom options, and Kent homes will supply, deliver, and install them.
The government says rents are based on the average market rate, and will depend on people’s circumstances, such as location and insurance status. Leases will be month to month to ensure flexibility.
The Nova Scotia Provincial Housing Agency will be in charge of leasing and managing the homes, and the Canadian Red Cross will to offer referrals and rent supports as needed.
