It’s National Acadian Day, and for the first time next August, Nova Scotia will officially celebrate Acadian Heritage Month.
Premier Tim Houston says it was an honour to make the proclamation at the Village Historique Acadien in West Pubnico.
“400 years of history and culture and contributions, it’s such an important thing to recognize that,” said Premier Houston.
The first heritage month lines up with the World Acadian Congress in Argyle and Clare, as hundreds will descend on the historical Acadian regions.
Argyle MLA and Acadian Affairs Minister Colton LeBlanc was also on hand.
“As a proud Acadian, I understand the importance of celebrating our heritage and sharing the incredible stories of our people who have played a fundamental role in shaping our province. Acadian Heritage Month provides us the opportunity to showcase our community’s enduring vitality and celebrate our cultural pride,” said LeBlanc.
