Churchill applauds latest ‘CAT’ ferry numbers

The CAT has carried over 21,000 passengers so far this season.

Bay Ferries says 35,000 have booked a trip on the Nova Scotia-to-Maine ferry in 2023.

Yarmouth MLA and Liberal leader Zach Churchill says every two visitors spend about $2,500 on average.

“This summer with the numbers that have come in already, we’ve brought in $30 million-plus to the Nova Scotia economy. We’re already getting a major return in investment on this,” said Churchill.

An economic impact study on the service will be conducted by the province.

Churchill says people have been picking on the ferry for a long time, and it’s unfair this is the only one undergoing a review.

“There are 13 ferries that are paid for fully or subsidized by the taxpayer in Nova Scotia. Hopefully we can get this review out of the way so people can leave it alone and let it do its job.”

He hopes to continue to see strong passenger numbers.
