Sad news from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and Cape Breton Eagles.
Halifax native, Jacob Newcombe has been diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma.
The 19-year-old forward was diagnosed following a recent medical evaluation.
“We are deeply saddened by the news of Jacob’s diagnosis, but we are equally inspired by his courage and determination,” says Eagles Majority Owner, Irwin Simon. “Jacob is not just a player to us; he’s part of the Cape Breton Eagles family. We are committed to supporting him in every possible way as he embarks on this journey.”

“I would like to thank the Cape Breton Eagles organization, my teammates, and the entire staff for their support throughout this difficult time,” says Jacob. “My main concern right now is my health. I am looking forward to getting back in the rink with my teammates and playing in front of Eagles fans in the future.”
Newcombe has been with the league for one season and has already scored 13 goals, and tallied 14 assists in 36 games.
