Sixteen dogs and puppies evacuated from NWT taken in by N.S. SPCA

Sixteen dogs and puppies have been taken in by the N.S. SPCA, who were evacuated from the Northwest Territories Wildfires.

The SPCA says the 11 puppies and 5 adult dogs are from Hay River, a town of about 3, 500 people.

Hay River Animal Shelter contacted our local SPCA with no western shelter available to take the animals. With the help of a charitable organization, Wings of Rescue, the dogs flew into the province Tuesday night.

The puppies are in foster homes and the dogs in shelters across the province and all will receive medical care including spay/neuters, vaccines, and some, possibly dental surgery.

The organization says until they receive the care they need; they will not be up for adoption.
