Emergency alert cancelled over man with shotgun, but RCMP continue the search

Police continue looking for a 52-year-old believed to be carrying a shotgun after an incident at a motel in Brookfield.

Police say a woman was injured at a motel after a shooting on Highway 2 in Brookfield but did not provide other details.

Darren Trevor Jackson is described as 5’10, about 200 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. He is believed to have left the scene of the shooting in a vehicle. He may be driving a dark 2016 GMC Sierra pickup truck possibly bearing Nova Scotia licence plate GYD193.

RCMP sent out an emergency alert on Sunday night regarding the search, but the alert has since been cancelled. Investigators say it was not a random incident and they do not believe there is any threat to the public.

Colchester and surrounding counties are still asked to dial 9-1-1 if they notice anything suspicious and to not pick up hitchhikers.
