RCMP close Walker Road in Chester after box of dynamite was discovered

The RCMP have closed Walker Road in Chester after a box of old dynamite was discovered during an excavation project.

Cpl. Chris Marshall told our newsroom the bomb squad was dispatched around 3:30 p.m. and were expected on scene around 4:45 p.m.

Although it’s tough to provide specific timeframes Cpl. Marshall said incidents like this typically take a few hours to safely deal with and he expects Walker Road to reopen sometime after dinnertime.

If deemed necessary the bomb squad may choose to discharge the dynamite on site in which case nearby residents may hear some explosions.
