The Municipality of the District of Lunenburg is taking a big step toward clean energy.
A solar garden may be coming to town, next to the Lunenburg Regional Community Recycling Centre on Mullock Rd thanks to a partnership with the Alternative Resource Energy Authority
(AREA) and the MODL.
The project is part of the Provincial Community Solar Program, expected to launch late 2023 or early 2024, pending approval.
The MODL is currently undergoing the necessary studies for the application process.
Once that goes through, the MODL would own it, and sell energy to Nova Scotia Power through a Purchase Power Agreement (PPA).
Residents of Lunenburg would have first dibs to subscribe to the garden, before being accessible across the province, as an alternative to rooftop solar.

Together, we’re harnessing the power of the sun for a brighter tomorrow.”
Once approved, site development work such as design, procurement, construction, and other government processes will take approximately two years.
