Lobster fishers in LFA 33 will be setting their traps on Sunday.
A conference call was held this morning with port reps to look at the marine forecast.
According to the Coldwater Lobster Association, the reps voted unanimously to start the season Sunday.
They used DFO’s 2-day flexibility window to start the season early.
Meanwhile, LFA 34 will be delayed until at least Wednesday.
A system is approaching that eliminated Monday and Tuesday as a possibility.
Port reps will hold their next call on Monday morning.
DFO hoping for safe season:

The Department of Fisheries and Oceans says safety is a priority for the start of lobster season.
Chief of Resource Management for Southwestern Nova Scotia Dwayne Surette says it’s all hands on deck.
“The Canadian Coast Guard, JRCC and others ensure we have the right assets in the right areas,” said Surette.
He called the lobster fishery an important part of the economy in our area.
Surette wants all fishers to get out to their grounds and return home safe.
