Support for family recovering from Christmas Eve crash in Cape Breton

People are rallying around a family from Halifax that was involved in a 2-vehicle collision in Cape Breton.

RCMP say a minivan and a car collided on Hwy 104 in Richmond County on Sunday evening, seriously injuring 7 people.

A fundraising campaign has been started for 36-year-old Daniel and 42-year-old Rikki Boneschansker and their 4 children ages 9, 7, 5, and 3.

According to the GoFundMe page, they were on their way to a Christmas Eve candlelight service while visiting family when the crash happened near Whiteside.

It also says some of the family is recovering in Cape Breton while Rikki recovers in hospital for 6 weeks in Halifax, requiring a number of surgeries.

Police have not provided an update on the 28-year-old New Brunswick man driving the car who suffered life-threatening injuries.
