Talks fail between NSCC and union with possibility of strike looming

NSCC is another step toward the possibility of a strike.

In a statement, the Nova Scotia Community College says they did not reach an agreement with the Atlantic Academic Union (AAU), which represents about 1,000 faculty and professional support employees.

This comes after meetings with a conciliator Wednesday and Thursday.

NSCC says the next step is for the conciliator to file a report to the Minister of Labour, Skills and Immigration to declare an impasse.

The college says that does not necessarily mean a strike. Once the report from the conciliator is filed, there is a two-week ‘cooling off’ period.

Susan Thompson-Graham lead negotiator for the union, says the key issues they are fighting for include working conditions, job security and wages.

The sides have been negotiating since August.
