Bridgewater’s mayor says he’s only had to deal with a small learning curve for the position.
David Mitchell served as a town councillor from 2004 until 2012 before winning the mayor’s seat over David Walker in the October municipal election.
Mitchell says there is one major difference.
“More phone calls, more emails are directed to me and my days are a little busier with the day-to-day of the town. Other than that, it’s like riding a bike.”
Mitchell says he expected to get more phone calls and emails from residents but adds, he hasn’t been the mayor for long.
Despite having to make a difficult decision to pursue a judicial review against the South Shore Regional School Board, Mitchell feels council has hit the ground running.
The 43 year-old says the position comes with challenges but his door is always open.
“I like being able to solve problems and what I don’t want is people thinking that their problems can’t be solved and so they’re just sitting on them and feeling like there is no hope.”
He says he’s not in the office everyday due to his full-time job but will gladly make arrangements to meet with people at their home, town hall or in the community.
Mitchell hopes to hear from the public when the town begins their budget deliberations for 2017-18.
